Forced to go online: A case study of learning consecutive and simultaneous interpreting under Covid-19 in Iraq

This paper explores the perspectives of Iraqi undergraduates studying consecutive and simultaneous interpreting (CI, SI) in Department Translation at Mustansiriyah University Iraq following sudden transition to online environment due Covid-19. The mode teaching learning has never been adopted before. study, therefore, aims investigate challenges opportunities that have emerged from this unprecedented experience learning. It does so by adopting a mixed-method approach combining an survey two focus group sessions. We also conducted pilot experiments test feasibility Zoom app teach CI SI synchronously. main findings study suggest while synchronous would potentially contribute enhancing skills, cannot totally replace actual classes higher education context unless rigorous infrastructure is first established.
